Its origins are uncertain: Some sources claim them to be lucky temple dogs, whereas others place them as farm dogs.

The Tibetan Terrier is a dog with many uses, able to guard, herd, and also be a suitable companion dog. Their utility in Tibet meant that the first examples of the breed available in the west were generally given as gifts, as the Tibetan Terrier, along with other Tibetan breeds, were too valuable to the people who owned them to casually sell. As such, the early history of the breed is linked to only a handful of foundation dogs.

The Tibetan name for the breed, Tsang Apso, roughly translates to "shaggy or bearded (apso) dog, from the province of Tsang". Some old travelers' accounts give the name "Dokhi Apso," or "outdoor" Apso, indicating a working dog which lives outdoors. Other "Apso" dogs from Tibet include the smaller and more familiar Lhasa Apso (called the Lhasa Terrier in the early 1900s) and the very rare Do Khyi Apso (bearded Tibetan Mastiff, sometimes considered as a TT/TM cross.)

Recent DNA analysis has concluded that the Tibetan Terrier is descended from the most ancient dog breeds.

Basenji pictures - Sneeze free dog

Wikipedia - Basenji

The basenji is a breed of hunting dog that originated in central Africa. The Bedlington Terrier is often described as looking like a lamb on a leash, probably because it has non-shedding fur with a woolly texture. These dogs may be blue, sandy, liver, or dark brown/black and sable and can be solid colours or have tan markings. These become paler as the dog grows older, but should never be pure white, which indicates a lack of "guard hairs;" the harsh hairs in their coat that give it texture and offer the dogs protection.

<link rel='alternate' type='text/html' href='http://dogsforallergysufferers.blogspot.com/2008/11/bedlington-terrier.html' title='Bedlington Terrier pictures - Other names for the breed are Toucheur de Boeuf (cattle driver) and Vuilbaard (dirty beard).

Cairn Terrier pictures - Sneeze free dogs

Wikipedia - Cairn Terrier

The Cairn Terrier is one of the oldest terrier breeds, originating in the Scottish Highlands and recognized as one of Scotland's earliest working dogs, used for hunting burrowing prey among the cairns.

Although the breed had existed long before, the name Cairn Terrier was a compromise suggestion after the breed was originally brought to official shows in the United Kingdom in 1909 under the name Short-haired Skye terriers. Doberman Pinschers are among the most common of pet breeds, and the breed is well known as an intelligent, alert, and loyal companion dog. Although once commonly used as guard dogs, watch dogs, or police dogs, this is less common today. In many countries, Doberman Pinschers are one of the most recognizable breeds, in part because of their actual roles in society, and in part because of media attention (see temperament). Careful breeding has improved the disposition of this breed, and the modern Doberman Pinscher is an energetic and lively breed ideally suited for companionship and family life.

Giant Schnauzer pictures - Dogs for Allergy Suffers

Wikipedia - Giant Schnauzer

The Giant Schnauzer is a large, powerful, compact breed of dog. As of January 1, 2004, the United Kennel Club deemed the AHT a separate terrier breed. It is often mistaken for a hairless Chihuahua.

Reputedly, the breed started when one hairless puppy appeared in one Rat Terrier litter in the state of Louisiana, United States, in 1972. Edwin and Willie Scott, the owners, liked the dog's look and temperament, and upon maturity bred her hoping to reproduce the hairless quality. They were eventually successful; a litter produced in 1981 provided the foundation stock of the breed.

Irish Water Spaniel pictures - Hypo allergenic dogs

Wikipedia - Irish Water Spaniel

The Irish Water Spaniel is breed of dog that is the largest and one of the oldest of spaniels. In its motherland the it is often called the Irish Blue Terrier. Over time the Kerry became a general working dog used for a variety of jobs including herding cattle and sheep and as a guard dog. It was, however, primarily developed for controlling "vermin" including rats, rabbits, badgers, foxes, otters and hares . Today the Kerry has spread around the world as a companion and working dog. Despite a Kerry Blue winning Crufts - the most important UK dog show - in 2000, it remains an unfashionable breed. Not as threatened as some of the other terrier breeds (Skye Terrier, Sealyham Terrier, Dandie Dinmont Terrier) but still distinctly uncommon.

<link rel='alternate' type='text/html' href='http://dogsforallergysufferers.blogspot.com/2008/11/kerry-blue-terrier.html' title='Kerry Blue Terrier pictures - While Maltese dogs tend to have a generally uniform conformation, poodles can vary widely in size and color. Consequently, Maltepoos demonstrate this variation. The dog naturally exhibits characteristics from each of its parents. A particular advantage maltepoos are said to have is a small amount (or lack of) shedding, due to both parents being low shedders.

Miniature Schnauzer pictures - Dogs for Allergy Suffers

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia - Miniature Schnauzer

The Miniature Schnauzer is a breed of small dog of the Schnauzer type that originated in Germany in the mid-to-late 19th century. Portuguese Water Dogs rode in bobbing fishing trawlers as they worked their way from the warm Atlantic waters of Portugal to the frigid fishing waters off the coast of Iceland where the fleets caught saltwater codfish to bring home. [1]

In Portugal, the breed is called Cão d'Água (pronounced "Kown-d'Ahgwa"). Cão means dog, de Água means of water. In its native land, the dog is also known as the Portuguese Fishing Dog (Cão Pescador Português). Cão de Água de Pelo Ondulado is the name given the wavy-haired variety, and Cão de Água de Pelo Encaracolado is the name for the curly-coated variety. While some of the crosses may have been accidental, most of the popular crosses (such as Cockapoos) are intentional. Intentional hybrids do not have an inherent health advantage over offspring from crosses between any two healthy, non-purebred dogs, and can still inherit health problems from one of the parental breeds. Despite popular belief, however, the name "Hybrid" is not accurate, as a hybrid is a cross between separate species, and all dog breeds belong to the species Canis Lupus, subspecies Familiaris. It is only listed as a hybrid because of popular use of the word when referring to these mixed breed dogs.

Shichon pictures - Hypo-allergenic dogs

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Wikipedia - Shichon

A dog hybrid (also called a designer dog) is a new term for an individual dog with ancestry in two different purebred dog breeds, traditionally called a crossbred dog. The name is both singular and plural. The spelling "Shih Tzu", most commonly used for the breed, is according to the Wade-Giles system of romanization. The Shih Tzu is reported to be the oldest and smallest of the Tibetan holy dogs,[citation needed] its vaguely lion-like look being associated with the Tibetan Snowlion. The Shih Tzu therefore also has the nickname "Tibetan temple dog". Rather, its origins are in old herding and guard breeds of Europe. The AKC classifies the Standard Schnauzer as Working Dog; however, this versatile breed is a robust, squarely built, medium-sized dog with aristocratic bearing. It was a popular subject of painters Sir Joshua Reynolds, Albrecht Dürer and Rembrandt.

Standard Schnauzers are typically Salt & Pepper or Black in color, and are known for exhibiting many of the "ideal" traits of any breed. These include high intelligence, agility, alertness, reliability, strong with high endurance, and loving companion. Standard Schnauzers are one of the oldest breeds with over 500 years of history. This breed of dog has been very popular in Europe, specifically Germany where it originated. The breed was first exhibited at a show in Hanover in 1879. They are majestic and regal in the show ring, and have taken top honors in many shows including the prestigious "Best in Show at Westminster Kennel Club" in 1997

Tibetan Terrier pictures - Allergy safe dogs

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Wikipedia - Tibetan Terrier

The Tibetan Terrier is not a member of the terrier group, the name being given to it by European travelers to Tibet who were reminded of terriers from back home when they first encountered the breed.

Poodle & Toy Poodle pictures - Top Dog Breeds for People with Allergies

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Wikipedia - Poodle & Toy Poodle

The Poodle is a breed of dog. The two terrier breeds are very similar, with the only major difference being the coats. The Smooth Fox Terrier has a smooth, flat, but hard and dense coat, whereas the Wire Fox Terrier coat should appear broken with a dense, wiry texture.

In show circles, the terms fox terrier and foxy are only used for these two breeds, but in other communities around the world, particularly rural and farming ares, these words are used for these breeds and also to refer to mixed-breed dogs or working terriers of fox terrier type, or to descendent breeds such as the Toy Fox Terrier and Miniature Fox Terrier, which are similar to each other.

Xoloitzcuintle - Mexican Hairless Dog pictures - Generally do well with people with allergies

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Wikipedia - Xoloitzcuintle

The Mexican Hairless Dog is a rare, hairless breed of dog whose size varies greatly.
